The Little Black Funeral Dress
By Shirley L. Thiessen
It’s not if, but when. Those who love will also grieve. To our detriment, society would rather sanitize or skip over the topic of grief. Twelve days after her son’s wedding, Shirley Thiessen was thrown into the unimaginable task of planning his funeral. Grief threatened to extinguish her purpose for living. Gradually, hope and resiliency emerged as Shirley learned to recycle the pain of loss for good purposes. While everyone’s grief journey is unique, there are tips to be shared and missteps to avoid.
Shirley Thiessen lives in Calgary, Alberta, Canada with her husband, Carey. They have two adult children. Chantel lives in Calgary and Jordan lives in Heaven.

By Nolly Mercado
Papa Love is a marvelous account of Father God’s love for us, his children. The story takes the reader on a journey from the creation of humankind and their separation from Father God, to their return to Him through Jesus’ sacrifice on the cross. Papa Love wonderfully depicts the love God has for humanity and the true meaning of the gospel, and it practically demonstrates ways to receive His love and comfort. The simple words and child-like illustrations make this a great gift for kids and adults alike.
Nolly’s passion is sharing the gospel and evangelizing anywhere she goes. Working with UChurch in Calgary in an outreach capacity, she connects with newcomers to Canada, and serves as a missionary to our local Spanish speaking community.
She also spends time in South America, namely Colombia, Bolivia and Peru, working with people in need, bringing hope through the gospel and freedom through healing ministry. She cares for meeting the practical needs of the most vulnerable through feeding and education programs for children and women in Colombia. She liaises with local and international organizations to bring relevant ministry where it’s needed most!
