Jesus: the “ultimate sanitation engineer”
by Frank King
My wife and I do a lot of reading in bed each night before turning out the lights. She uses a Kindle and I go with old-school paper. The advantage for me is I can—and do—utilize a highlighter to remember words that resonate on a spiritual level.
Here are some highlights that I hope will spur you to thought, just as they’ve done for me.
“Whenever I get depressed by a lack of spiritual progress, I realize my very dismay is a sign of progress.” — Philip Yancey, Prayer: Does It Make Any Difference?
“To be alive is to be broken. And to be broken is to stand in need of grace.” — Brennan Manning, The Ragamuffin Gospel
“The God of the Bible is also the God of the genome. He can be worshiped in the cathedral or in the laboratory.” — Francis S. Collins, The Language of God
“If you want to live a degenerate life, then God is your mortal enemy. He represents a lethal danger to your selfishness, greed, lechery and hatred.” — Dinesh D’Souza, What’s so Great About Christianity?
“Messy spirituality is the scandalous assertion that following Christ is anything but tidy and neat, balanced and orderly.” — Michael Yaconelli, Messy Spirituality
“If we find we have created a doctrine of God that makes perfect sense to us, then we’re probably no longer talking about the God of the Bible.” — Mark Galli, God Wins
“God has made it clear that he will go to any length to save us—short of overriding our freedom, which would be a violation of the very love He offers to us.” — Jerry L. Walls, God is Great, God is Good
“The declaration that science is the only arbiter of truth is not itself a scientific finding. It is a belief.” — Timothy Keller, Making Sense of God
“When I begin to doubt, I turn again to the face of Jesus and there I see the compassionate love of a God well acquainted with grief.” — Philip Yancey, The Bible Jesus Read.
“Jesus wants your garbage. He wants to take your trash away for good. He’s willing and ready to take it to the dump for you. For free. He’s the ultimate sanitation engineer.” — Bruxy Cavey, Reunion.
